This ergonomic office chair has lots of functions that allow you to easily adapt the chair to your body.

Height-adjustable seat allows you to adjust the height so that back and legs are at a 90° angle.

Synchronized tilt mechanism allows the chair to move with you. The backrest moves more than the seat when you lean back, so torso/hips open up. This improves circulation and keeps energy levels up.

As you recline, the synchronized tilt mechanism allows feet to stay on the floor while your gaze remains straight ahead. Your chest stretches without adding pressure on thighs, improving circulation.

This swivel chair has adjustable tilt tension that allows you to adjust the resistance to suit your movements and weight.

To adjust the tilt tension, turn the knob under the seat to increase or decrease the resistance.

The high backrest and the curved shape of the chair, provide good lower back support and prevent your back from getting tired. You sit comfortably and longer with a relaxed posture.

The shape of the armrests provides good support and helps you find a good sitting position.

The mesh material of the backrest lets air through to your back during long sitting periods.

it’s an okay chair.Nathaniel P.To reference, I own this current model, and I’ve also owned the previous model. The previous model was built better overall, and I maintained that one for about five years. This current model is not as good and has been made significantly cheaper. The armrest has been converted to a rubber grip instead of a padded cushion. I’ve owned this current model for about eight months now, and it does not have the same build quality as the previous chair. This chair is also loud, not squeaky, but when you lean back, it does make a loud pop noise. It also does this if you tilt back and swivel. I'm unsure if this is a product defect, but it has been an issue since I purchased the chair. It is relatively comfortable for the price you are paying, but if you are planning to use this chair more than 6 hours a day, I would highly recommend upgrading to something more supportive and comfortable.2

Terrible armrestsTALICIA S.The seat was surprisingly stiff, but it's easy to get used to and has become comfortable. Setup was easy, although the wheels don't roll easily and it seems it's designed that way. It can be annoying when trying to move the chair out of the way if it's empty. My biggest issue with the chair has been the armrests. I'd expect better quality for this price range, and a day after I put it together and putting it under my desk, both armrests were marked up from getting caught under the desktop. The rubbery material got caught on something and has peeled back some and it's unsightly and looks like it has black and blues. Considering the comfort after breaking it in, I would recommend it, but in a darker color so if you do accidentally mark up the armrests it won't be as noticeable.4

Not a good long term investmentChris D.I have had this chair for almost two years. I think it is over priced for its quality. The fixed lumbar support has not been helpful as it does not fall in the right spot for me. I also found the cushioning to be pretty weak causing soreness and discomfort over time. The back tilt and mesh backing is nice, but I wish it had other adjustable features such as arm rests and lumbar support. I will be upgrading to something better soon.2

My previous chair wasn't as tall and had my back/core engaging to sit straight(which would quickly cause pain). This chair supports my back allowing for better posture. I'm 5'3", so I'm not exactly lined up with the headrest and lumbar support, but it still works great. My first time using it, I was able to sit for 6 hours straight working on a project. I didn't even think about my back! I was ecstatic! It may not be for everyone, but I'm super happy with my purchase!5

Story

Our take on polyester

Polyester is a durable, wrinkle-resistant and easy-care material that is ideal for many home furnishing products like rugs, pillows, quilts and cushions. The downside to virgin polyester is that it is made from oil, coal or natural gas. This means that when we use virgin polyester, we are exhausting the planet’s natural resources. Our response to this, is to replace all virgin polyester with recycled in our products. In 2020, we achieved the milestone of replacing 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products and will accelerate the transformation towards the aim of only using recycled polyester throughout the product range where polyester is used.

Virgin vs recycled polyester

Originally, all polyester was made from oil-based raw materials which are not renewable but we are switching to only using recycled polyester. The good thing is that polyester can be recycled over and over, without negatively affecting the quality of our products. When we make products from recycled polyester, we give a second life to material that is not biodegradable and reduce the amount that may otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. Instead, PET and other sources of polyester are used to make textiles, storage boxes, kitchen fronts and even lamps. Recycled polyester is just as good as virgin polyester in terms of looks, quality and function, and produces about 50% less in CO2 emissions. And the material is just as clean and safe in every way.

Some challenges with recycled polyester

Recycled polyester makes us less dependent on oil. The amount we convert, is equal to the amount of virgin fossil fuel we eliminate from our polyester raw material (this excludes potential dyeing and other post recycled polyester production treatments). With some exceptions, the challenge is not the conversion of polyester into recycled itself, but to make it available to everyone by keeping it affordable. Buying low environmental impact products often comes with a higher price tag. We want to change that by working to make recycled polyester products more affordable and accessible to the many people.

Only recycled polyester

IKEA is committed to end the dependency on virgin fossil materials and only use renewable or recycled materials by 2030. We are accelerating this movement for polyester in our range and aim to replace all virgin polyester in our textile products with recycled. In 2020, IKEA replaced 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products with recycled polyester. In volume, this means we converted 130,000 metric tonnes of recycled polyester, and saved 200,000 tonnes of virign polyester. We haven’t reached our 100% goal yet, but we have come far and overcome many obstacles on the way. These volumes make us a leader in converting to recycled polyester and we hope that our decisions can inspire and motivate whole industries to change.

Responsible sourcing

At IKEA, we demand that all recycled polyester used in IKEA products shall come from recyclers that are compliant with the Global Recycled Standard and traceability is secured to the IKEA product through requirements toward the IKEA Suppliers. By only using recycled polyester that meets the Global Recycled Standards we manage to secure social, environmental and chemical practices at the recycler’s production. We believe that the GRS standard is the best standard on the market today. We work with our partners and textile organisations such as Textile Exchange to further improve standards on recycled materials, including traceability of material beyond the recycling units.

What is polyester?

Polyester is a durable, quick-drying and insulating material that is optimal to use for textiles and as filling in pillows, quilts and furniture. The material is made from crude oil – a limited resource. Since IKEA doesn’t want to contribute to more virgin oil being used, we are now gradually switching to recycled and traceable polyester from sources like PET bottles. What’s nice is that polyester can be recycled over and over, without changing or losing its great qualities.
